Phased/End of 2012

Groundbreaking, October 2009

Union Place is the brain-child of Merten, Inc. a green design-build firm, specializing in the architectural design and construction of innovative, energy-efficient, and sustainable living environments.

Union Place will be Fort Collins' first LEED-certified, sustainable mixed-use development complete with affordable housing.

Merten, Inc. is building approximately 89 housing units of various types and 19,000 sq. ft. of retail/commercial frontage along Willox Lane.

The local economy and area will be stimulated by new consumers and community members.

Sustainable building practices include:

  • Geothermal energy
  • Permeable concrete
  • Rain gardens
  • Responsible use of materials, resources, and energy.

Due to extraordinary project site constraints, the URA is investing in public improvements totaling $2.2 million. Key property improvements include the completion of the street network on Willox Lane, upgrades to infrastructure deficiencies, and the construction of public parks and green space on the developed property for public benefit.
